Homes that have children who escalate into the realm of safety concerns can suffer from secondary trauma. Having a clear plan that is taught, practiced, and followed is a great way to prevent this for all involved - even for the one who tends to become unsafe!
 
This basic safety plan communicates that when someone becomes unsafe, they will need to take a break away from everyone else. A visual time out request card is also included for children to signal with even when their words for that aren't very accessible (don't expect kids to use this for awhile when they need it!).
